New guy here and way over my head!

Found this program a few days ago and it's just what I need for my art work.

However,,, I have no higher math skills and really have no idea how to run this program.

I am trying to make a CAD file to show an Umbilic Torus. Got this from wikipedia.

[x]: sin u(7+cos(u/3 -2v)+2cos(u/3+v))

[y]: cos u(7+cos(u/3 - 2v)+2cos(u/3+v))

[z]: sin (u/3-2v)+2sin(u/3+v)

but when I try to input it I get a syntax error message.

Tried the iso surface window and Parametric.

Is there anyone in the Phoenix Arizona area using this program that I can talk to?

Or can you all beat me with a stick long enough till I understand this program?

Hi Kevin,
welcome to the forum.
The parametric definition you used isn't supported by K3DSurf so you have to change it a little bit and use the following parametric equation:

X():sin(u)*(7+cos(u/3 -2*v)+2*cos(u/3+v))
Y():cos(u)*(7+cos(u/3 - 2*v)+2*cos(u/3+v))
Z():sin(u/3-2*v)+2*sin(u/3+v)
[u]:-pi, pi
[v]:-pi, pi

That did it!!!

Once I figured out to leave out the (): it works just like it should.

Is there some way to save this and export it for use in a CAD program?

I am using Alibre design.

yes you can export to an obj file format by using the "Options:"-->"Export" in the Parametric page. This file format is supported by almost all 3D modeling programs.

I found that box but there is no save or export button to push?!?!

All it says is "Edit OBJ."

Did I miss something?

Is there a paid version of this program?

Hi,
When pushing the "Edit Obj" button, a small text editor is lunched. Then in the "File" option you have a "save" option that you can use to save the oBJ file
Thank you for your proposition of help but there is no paid version of K3DSurf. When the next version will be available I'll make an option for donation and support of this project.
