hi,
I realize this is not a heavily used part of the forum because the previous post was in 2007. I am running Windows 7, 64 bit with 8 GB of ram. When K3dSurf is started an application error message box is shown saying "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application." Is there anyway to resolve this error? On occasion K3dSurf has started but that might be only a single time after a reboot. The application looks very neat and I would like to use it. Are there others running this app in Windows? Are there others running this app in Windows 64 bit?
Found this info in the Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: k3dsurf.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4671d876
Faulting module name: mingwm10.dll, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x3f65d2bc
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000017c0
Faulting process id: 0x1ae8
Faulting application start time: 0x01ccbcd3d9c8d3be
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\K3DSurf-0.6.2\bin\k3dsurf.exe

hi,
The link is just to a site trying to shill unnecessary software. After doing even more searches on Google I tried these things but did not resolve the problem:
1) Tried running the program as administrator.
2) Opened a command window and changed the PATH so the application was first in the PATH. There had been a suggestion that mingmw10.dll might have had different versions in different applications.
3) Copied the application to a directory without blanks in the directory name.
4) Opened a command window and changed that PATH so only the single application and Windows;windows/system32 directory were included.
5) Did a complete reboot.
6) Tried various "compatibility" options, that is running the program in a Windows XP compatibility environment.
Oh well. Perhaps I'll look at it again in the new year. |

Hi,
Try this: Copy the entire K3DSurf installation folder in the Desktop (for example) and try to lunch K3DSurf by clicking the k3dsurf.exe file.
Lunching the program by using a command window also works for me.
Some time ago I realized I can't lunch the program via the K3DSurf installed icon (but it worked fine before) and the only reason I can see is that it's a Windows 7 bug. _________________ Cheers,

This worked perfectly for me. I don't think that it is a Windows bug but a quirk. A couple of guesses why it might work.
1) The desktop folder has different directory permissions than the C:\Program Files (x86)\ directory. For example if the program tries to create a temporary file in the current directory, that is the program directory, it could fail in Windows 7 because the directory permissions have been tightened up but the a temporary file could be created in a desktop folder.
2) Running the program by double clicking the .exe may set the some of the environment variables slightly different such that Windows looks in the current directory for loading ddls instead of checking the whole path.
Thanks a lot. I've been able to run a couple of quick examples and export them to obj format to look at them in another graphics program. |
