im sorry for the rather basic question but how do you export an obj out of k3dsurf v0.6.1.3? when i enter a file name it saves it, i guess, but it is not an obj file just a file that the computer does not recognize.
thanks in advance |

Hi,
Just give it a name with the ".obj" extension (like "test.obj")
After that, you have to use a 3D program that can load this kind of file (Blender, Maya, 3dsMax...).
Hope this can help. _________________ Cheers,

omg.....
thanks a lot, i really appreciate the response. your software is fantastic, i am no math genius but for an architecture student its simple interface is brilliant for exploring the potential for "mathematical space".

I'm have always been interested how human beings connect visually with
software. Having used AutoCad for some 20 odd years, I was never able to
see why that software never progressed in terms of making it easier to use.
Most new users still have to go out and buy a 2" thick (50mm) book on how to use the program. I finally gave up and Learned how to use ArchiCad.
Then I discovered SketchUp which was even easier to learn.
Why am I saying all of this?
Visually I would locate the far to Big Edit obj button to the right of input box.
and since there is no other export format. I would have the K3Dsurf provide
the .obj extension. I would also change the Edit obj button to read " Save as .obj
my 2 cents! |

Hi,
There is a lot to say about the GUI in K3DSurf .
I'm not an expert in the field but I'm also a K3DSurf user and usually buttons are arranged to suit my needs and hopefully the needs of others. The caption in the button is "Edit OBJ" simply because the editor is luncher when the button is clicked. I'll think about it...
Also, with 20 years of experience you're more than welcome to show as some of your work with the mathematical sculptures _________________ Cheers,

Let me clarify, my 20 years experience relates to Architecture and Building
construction. with mathematical sculptures I'm a novice at best.
But I'm hoping to learn more, by using your wonderful program.
and the expertise of those that contribute to this forum.
cheers! |
